I'm spending this Sunday afternoon watching the Grey Cup, and hauling out all my Christmas decorations. I haven't had my decorations for the last two years, so it's pretty nice looking at all the old decorations and remembering the stories behind them. Some of them are definitely looking a little worse for wear, like the little drummer boy I made in kindergarten out of a toilet paper roll, or the baby Jesus ornament made out of clay from grade 5 that I dropped and unfortunately broke. Makes me think of Taladega Nights and praying to little 8lb baby Jesus since he's better than grown-up Jesus. So, yeah...
I broke baby Jesus. Merry Christmas!

Sunday, November 7, 2010
Once again I find myself sitting on the couch realizing that it's Sunday evening, and while I did a lot this weekend, I didn't get to everything I wanted to. Of course it doesn't help that now it gets dark at 4:30, so this feeling comes much earlier Sunday evenings.
This weekend's exciting moments...baking granola bars, finally passing my AFOD 2 leadership test, and having a bird poop on me. Well, my raincoat sleeve while I was wearing it. Still, guess it did help with luck when I passed the AFOD 2 test.

Livin' on the edge...
...of total un-awesomeness. Yup, that's me.
Except for Friday. Friday afternoon started with my taking a stand. My new boss had decided we would spend the Friday before the long weekend golfing. Except that all the drivers who work for us were unable to go because of work, so I decided that even though all the other officers were going, and all the mechanics were going, I would stay with my peeps and get some extra work done. So, my weekend started off with moral rightousness.
Then, when I got home, I spent about an hour gardening, before heading next door to have drinks with my neighbour and his friend. I was there about 5 hours, just shooting the shit and drinking. And eating the fabulous steak and corn on the cob dinner my neighbout made. My contribution, daquaries and a roll of toilet paper (not that the two were related, I just made daquaries and he was out of toilet paper, I swear). Then it was off to a night of dancing and drinking with a friend from Basic and his roommate and his roommate's girlfriend. Unfortunately it ended with me burning the roof of my mouth with my customary post-drinking pizza delivery pizza.
So now I am spending the rest this weekend getting ready for company. It's Sunday. My parents arrive Wednesday morning. And a friend from Afghanistan arrives Wednesday night. I'm pretty stoked, although a lot of cleaning has been started. So far, I have cleaned my bathroom, done tons of laundry, grocery shopped, cleaned all of the spiders from the patio and finished cleaning up the plants. Now if only I could be reasonably sure that having my parents visit at the same as a friend, who have completely different ideas about how to see Victoria, is a good idea.

Spiderman drives standard
I learned how to drive standard after work today. Well, I learned first and second gear, how to start and stop and coast. Next up...reverse and gears 3 thru 5, and going over 45kph. A guy from work was teaching me, all patient like on his own car. I only stalled it like 10 times, and hopped and jolted too.
In less exciting news...greeting me on my door after work...2 huge spiders. So I remained calm, unlocked the front door, grabbed the can of Raid and stood outside spraying the crap out of the arachnids for about 20 minutes. Suffice it to say, they are now dead. And lying outside in their deadness as a lesson to other spiders.

SMRT
I'm SMRT. I could not figure out how to open the fuel tank on my co-op Smart Car tonight. So I asked some guy at the gas station. Then I found the laminated instruction sheet under the driver's seat. The fuel tank is on the passenger side, not the driver's side.

Epic Fail
In the course of my work and getting 'all the checks in the boxes' that I need for the next step of my career I have to finish 3 types of courses...general officer courses, air force officer courses, and air force transportation officer courses. My goal is to have all the courses done by next December, so that I can really focus on learning the job I'm expecting to get posted to next summer.
Two of the three types of courses are going pretty well, the third though, whooo-eee, it's a doozy. I don't think I've ever failed a test in my life, in school, university or any other work test, but damn if I haven't failed two of my AFOD (air force officer courses) tests. It's starting to get really annoying.
I'm hoping to have two more AFOD tests passed before my parents come and visit after Labour Day weekend. Since I have to wait a week after failing a test before I can rewrite it, I guess I'd better get crack-a-lackin' so I have time to write each test twice.
Oh, the joys of failure.

Working Out
I've been working out in my home the last few days. Just weights and stuff while I watch TV. I've been thinking of buying the P90X workout program and giving it a go. I read a review that said the guy learned to love doing push-ups and could do tons. I need that.
Underpants
I really want A/C in this stupid environmentally friendly apartment of mine. I went for a walk this afternoon to go shopping downtown. As soon as I stepped out of my house I was dripping in sweat, in fact, it was pooling in my elbow when my arm was bent to talk on the phone. Gross. Especially since I was trying on clothes.
I have spent the rest of the day sitting in front my fan in my underpants to try to get over this 32C heat. That's right folks, my underpants and that is all.

Work
Just a quick update on work. I am loving work of late.
I'm tackling challenges, learning tons of new things and I really enjoy the people I work with. There are definately hurdles and things that make me scratch my head and wonder about how some people, ie grown adults, get to be the way they are.
It's really rewarding though to know that all of the good more than makes up for all the bad.
